Slewing Ring Replacement: Mounting, Gearing and Loads

How to specify a slewing ring alternative: identify the complete reference, both mounting interfaces, gear geometry, support structure and operating load case.

Record the complete reference

Start with the bearing nameplate, original drawing and full part number, including punctuation, suffix and revision. A family prefix or nominal raceway size can cover different gear positions, ring sections, bolt patterns and clearance requirements.

For a suffix-specific example, see KUD02050-035VA15-900-000. Include the full configuration in an enquiry so the exact interface can be reviewed.

Compare the envelope and both mounting interfaces

Record outside diameter, inside diameter, overall height, ring heights and locating steps. Then record the inner and outer mounting circles, hole counts, hole or thread diameters, thread depth and angular positions. Mark which ring rotates and how each ring seats on the companion structure.

08-0307-00 illustrates why each ring needs a separate check: its listed inner and outer hole counts differ. 03-0217-00 distinguishes an outer hole diameter from an inner M12 thread designation.

Describe the complete gear mesh

Specify internal gear, external gear or gearless construction. For a geared ring, provide module or diametral pitch, tooth count, pressure angle, profile correction, face width, tooth treatment, pinion geometry, centre distance and backlash requirements.

Keep metric module and inch-based diametral pitch distinct. L6-43E9Z uses external-gear DP data, while L6-25N9Z is an internal-gear reference. For a gearless reference, include the separate drive arrangement.

Provide simultaneous loads and the operating cycle

Provide axial load, radial load and overturning moment at the bearing, including direction, load application points and peak conditions. Also record rotational speed, oscillation angle, reversals, starts and stops, and the expected operating cycle.

Single-row ball, double-row ball, cross-roller and three-row roller arrangements require an application review. A catalogue capacity value should be interpreted with the corresponding load curves, fastener conditions and support assumptions.

Include the companion structure and service access

Send flange drawings, supporting geometry, bolt details, locating datums and available flatness measurements. Bearing deformation and bolt loads depend on how the ring is supported. For larger rings, include lifting access, assembly sequence and the space needed to install and tighten fasteners.

Specify temperature, dust or moisture exposure, seals, lubrication method, grease fitting access and maintenance constraints. These details help establish a workable installation as well as a dimensional match.

Separate catalogue symbols, units and weight

Check the table header before interpreting a number. A nominal raceway designation is not necessarily an outside diameter. A gear pitch diameter is different from a mounting circle. In the IMO Series 320 table, G denotes weight in kilograms; it does not establish overall bearing height.

The 31-20 1250/2-06700 reference shows why the section drawing and table must be read together. Ask for any dimension that is absent from the exact reference rather than borrowing it from a neighbouring model.

Confirm the alternative before purchase

  • Agree the complete interface drawing, material, clearance, gearing and lubrication requirements.
  • Review normal and peak operating loads with the supporting structure and bolts.
  • Confirm inspection criteria, runout or stiffness requirements and any needed sample evaluation.
  • Use the approved PRIUS drawing and technical conditions for the supplied product.

Original-brand names and numbers serve as cross-references. Similar catalogue dimensions identify candidates for review; they do not independently establish interchangeability.
